Siree Raag, Third Mehl:
By His Grace, the Guru is found, and the Name of the Lord is implanted within.
Without the Guru, no one has obtained it; they waste away their lives in vain.
The self-willed manmukhs create karma, and in the Court of the Lord, they receive their punishment. ||1||
O mind, give up the love of duality.
The Lord dwells within you; serving the Guru, you shall find peace. || Pause ||
When you love the Truth, your words are true; they reflect the True Word of the Shabad.
The Name of the Lord dwells within the mind; egotism and anger are wiped away.
Meditating on the Naam with a pure mind, the Door of Liberation is found. ||2||
Engrossed in egotism, the world perishes. It dies and is re-born; it continues coming and going in reincarnation.
The self-willed manmukhs do not recognize the Shabad; they forfeit their honor, and depart in disgrace.
Serving the Guru, the Name is obtained, and one remains absorbed in the True Lord. ||3||
With faith in the Shabad, the Guru is found, and selfishness is eradicated from within.
Night and day, worship the True Lord with devotion and love forever.
The Treasure of the Naam abides in the mind; O Nanak, in the poise of perfect balance, merge into the Lord. ||4||19||52||
Hindi Translation (हिंदी अनुवाद)
जब परमेश्वर कृपा करता है, तब गुरु की प्राप्ति होती है, और गुरु हरिनाम को दृढ़ करवा देता है।
गुरु के बिना हरिनाम को किसी ने भी प्राप्त नहीं किया और नामहीन व्यक्तियों ने अपना जन्म व्यर्थ गंवाया है।
अपने मन की बात मान कर जो व्यक्ति कर्म करते हैं, उन्हें परमात्मा की सभा में सज़ा मिलती है॥ १॥
हे मन ! तू द्वैत-भाव को दूर कर दे।
क्योंकि तेरे अंदर हरि का वास है, उसकी प्राप्ति के लिए गुरु की सेवा करो, तभी सुखों की प्राप्ति होगी॥ रहाउ॥
जब जीव सत्य-स्वरूप परमात्मा से प्रेम करता है तो उसके वचन एवं कर्म सत्य हो जाते हैं।
परमात्मा का नाम मन में बस जाए तो अहम् व क्रोधादि समस्त विकार निवृत्त हो जाते हैं।
निर्मल मन से प्रभु के नाम का ध्यान करने से ही जीव मोक्ष द्वार को प्राप्त करता है॥ २॥
अहंकार में ही सम्पूर्ण जगत् नष्ट होता है तथा पुनःपुनः आवागमन के चक्र में पड़ा रहता है।
स्वेच्छाचारी जीव गुरु-उपदेश को नहीं जानते, इसलिए वे अपना सम्मान गंवा कर चले जाएँगे।
गुरु-सेवा द्वारा प्रभु नाम प्राप्त होता है और उस सत्य स्वरूप परमात्मा में लीन होते हैं। ॥ ३॥
गुरु-उपदेश मान कर अंत:करण में से अभिमान समाप्त किया जा सकता है तथा सर्वश्रेष्ठ परमात्मा को प्राप्त किया जा सकता है।
नित्यप्रति भक्ति करके स्थिर व सत्य-स्वरूप परमात्मा में लीन होना करो।
नानक देव जी कथन करते हैं कि जिस जीव के मन में नाम-पदार्थ बस गया, वह सहजावस्था में समा गया ॥ ४॥ १६॥ ५२ ॥
