Sorat'h, Ninth Mehl:

O mind, you have not accepted the Guru's Teachings.What is the use of shaving your head, and wearing saffron robes? ||1||Pause||

Abandoning Truth, you cling to falsehood; your life is uselessly wasting away.Practicing hypocrisy, you fill your belly, and then sleep like an animal. ||1||

You do not know the Way of the Lord's meditation; you have sold yourself into Maya's hands.The madman remains entangled in vice and corruption; he has forgotten the jewel of the Naam. ||2||

He remains thoughtless, not thinking of the Lord of the Universe; his life is uselessly passing away.Says Nanak, O Lord, please, confirm your innate nature; this mortal is continually making mistakes. ||3||10||

Hindi Translation (हिंदी अनुवाद)

सोरठि महला ९ ॥

हे मन ! तूने गुरु के उपदेश को तो ग्रहण नहीं किया,फिर सिर मुंडवा कर भगवा वेष धारण करने का क्या अभिप्राय है? ॥ १॥ रहाउ॥

सत्य को छोड़कर झूठ के साथ लगकर तूने अकारण ही अपना अमूल्य जीवन बर्बाद कर दिया है।तू अनेक छल-कपट करके अपने पेट का पोषण करता है और पशु की भांति सोता है॥ १॥

तूने राम भजन के महत्व को नहीं समझा और स्वयं को माया के हाथ बेच दिया है।यह बावला मन तो विषय-विकारों में ही फॅसा रहा है और नाम-रत्न को भुला दिया है॥ २॥

यह अचेत रहता है और भगवान को स्मरण नहीं करता और अपना जन्म व्यर्थ ही बिता दिया है।नानक का कथन है कि हे भगवान ! तू अपने विरद् को पहचानते हुए सब का कल्याण कर, चूंकि प्राणी तो हमेशा ही भूल-चूक करने वाला है॥ ३॥ १०॥
