O humble servant of the Lord, O True Guru, O True Primal Being: I offer my humble prayer to You, O Guru.I am a mere insect, a worm. O True Guru, I seek Your Sanctuary. Please be merciful, and bless me with the Light of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||
O my Best Friend, O Divine Guru, please enlighten me with the Name of the Lord.Through the Guru's Teachings, the Naam is my breath of life. The Kirtan of the Lord's Praise is my life's occupation. ||1|| Pause ||
The servants of the Lord have the greatest good fortune; they have faith in the Lord, and a longing for the Lord.Obtaining the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, they are satisfied; joining the Sangat, the Blessed Congregation, their virtues shine forth. ||2||
Those who have not obtained the Sublime Essence of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, are most unfortunate; they are led away by the Messenger of Death.Those who have not sought the Sanctuary of the True Guru and the Sangat, the Holy Congregation-cursed are their lives, and cursed are their hopes of life. ||3||
Those humble servants of the Lord who have attained the Company of the True Guru, have such pre-ordained destiny inscribed on their foreheads.Blessed, blessed is the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, where the Lord's Essence is obtained. Meeting with His humble servant, O Nanak, the Light of the Naam shines forth. ||4||4||
Hindi Translation (हिंदी अनुवाद)
हे परमात्मा स्वरूप, सतिगुरु, सति पुरुष जी ! मेरी आप से यही विनती है कि मैं अति सूक्ष्म कृमियों के समान जीव हूँ. सो हे सतगुरु जी ! मैं आपकी शरण में उपस्थित हूँ. कृपा करके मेरे अंत : करण में प्रभु-नाम का प्रकाश कर दो ॥ १॥
हे मेरे मित्र गुरुदेव ! मुझे राम के नाम का प्रकाश प्रदान करो।गुरु उपदेश के अनुसार जो परमात्मा का नाम सिमरन करता है वही मेरे प्राणों का सहायक है, परमेश्वर की महिमा कथन करना ही मेरी रीति है॥ १॥ रहाउ॥
हे सतिगुरु जी ! आपकी कृपा से मैं जानता हूँ कि जिन की प्रभु-नाम में निष्ठा है, और उसको जपने की तृष्णा है उन हरि-भक्तों का सौभाग्य है।क्योंकि उस हरि का हरि-नाम प्राप्त होने से ही उसके भक्तों को संतुष्टि प्राप्त होती है तथा संतों की संगत मिलने से उनके हृदय में हरि के गुणों का ज्ञान रूपी प्रकाश होता है॥ २॥
जिन्होंने हरि के हरि हरि नाम रस को नहीं चखा, अर्थात् जो प्राणी ईश्वर के नाम में लीन नहीं हुए, वे भाग्यहीन यमों के चंगुल में फँस जाते हैं।जो सतिगुरु की शरण में आकर सत्संगति प्राप्त नहीं करते उन विमुख व्यक्तियों के जीवन पर धिक्कार है और भविष्य में उनके जीने पर भी धिक्कार है॥ ३॥
जिन हरि-भक्तों ने सतिगुरु की संगति प्राप्त की है, उनके मस्तिष्क पर अकाल-पुरुष द्वारा जन्म से पूर्व ही शुभ लेख लिखा होता है।सतिगुरु जी का फुरमान है कि हे निरंकार ! धन्य है वह सत्संगति, जिस से हरि-रस प्राप्त होता है और प्रभु भक्तों को उसके नाम का ज्ञान-प्रकाश मिलता है। इसलिए हे सतिगुरु जी ! मुझे तो अकाल-पुरुष के नाम की बख्शिश करो ॥ ४॥ ४॥
