Dhanaasaree, First Mehl:
The body is the paper, and the mind is the inscription written upon it.The ignorant fool does not read what is written on his forehead.In the Court of the Lord, three inscriptions are recorded.Behold, the counterfeit coin is worthless there. ||1||
O Nanak, if there is silver in it,then everyone proclaims, "It is genuine, it is genuine."||1||Pause||
The Qazi tells lies and eats filth;the Brahmin kills and then takes cleansing baths.The Yogi is blind, and does not know the Way.The three of them devise their own destruction. ||2||
He alone is a Yogi, who understands the Way.By Guru's Grace, he knows the One Lord.He alone is a Qazi, who turns away from the world,and who, by Guru's Grace, remains dead while yet alive.He alone is a Brahmin, who contemplates God.He saves himself, and saves all his generations as well. ||3||
One who cleanses his own mind is wise.One who cleanses himself of impurity is a Muslim.One who reads and understands is acceptable.Upon his forehead is the Insignia of the Court of the Lord. ||4||5||7||
Hindi Translation (हिंदी अनुवाद)
धनासरी महला १ ॥
मानव की यह काया कागज है और मन इस पर लिखा हुक्म उसकी किस्मत है।परन्तु नादान मानव अपने मस्तक पर लिखी हुई किस्मत के लेख को नहीं पढ़ता।उस भगवान के दरबार में तीन प्रकार की किस्मत के लेख लिखे जाते हैं।देख लो, खोटा सिक्का वहाँ किसी काम नहीं आता॥१॥
हे नानक ! यदि सिक्के पर चाँदी हो तोहर कोई उस सिक्के को खरा-खरा कहता है॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
काजी कचहरी में झूठा न्याय सुना कर हराम का धन खाता है।ब्राह्मण अपने इष्ट देवता को बलि देने के लिए जीव-हत्या करके अपने पाप उतारने अन्धा अर्थात् ज्ञानहीन योगी योग साधना की युक्ति नहीं जानता।काजी, ब्राह्मण एवं योगी यह तीनों ही जीवों हेतु विनाश का बंधन हैं॥ २॥
सच्चा योगी वही है, जो प्रभु-मिलन की युक्ति को समझता है औरजो गुरु की कृपा से एक ईश्वर को जानता है।काजी वही है, जो अपनी मनोवृति को विकारों से बदल लेता है औरजो गुरु की कृपा से अपने अहंत्व को मार देता है।वास्तविक ब्राह्मण वही है, जो ब्रह्म का चिंतन करता है।वह भवसागर में से स्वयं तो पार होता ही है और अपने समस्त वंश को भी पार करवा देता है॥ ३॥
वही आदमी अक्लमंद है, जो अपने मन को स्वच्छ करता है।वास्तविक मुसलमान वही है, जो अपने मन की अपवित्रता को दूर करता है।वही मनुष्य विद्वान है, जो सत्य को समझता है और ऐसा मनुष्य प्रभु को स्वीकार हो जाता है।ऐसा मनुष्य वही होता है, जिसके माथे पर सत्य के दरबार की स्वीकृति का चिन्ह लगा होता ॥४॥५॥७॥
